How Discord boost levels work
Discord publishes three server boost levels. Each level needs a set number of active boosts, and higher levels keep the perks from lower ones. Use the breakdown below to match a level to your community goals.
Boost requirements for each level
- Level 1: 2 boosts
- Level 2: 7 boosts
- Level 3: 14 boosts

Level 1 — 2 boosts
- About 100 emoji slots, 15 sticker slots, 24 soundboard slots
- 128 Kbps audio quality
- Go Live streams at 720p 60 FPS
- Custom server invite background and animated server icon
- Member upload limit typically stays at the unboosted server default
Level 2 — 7 boosts
- Includes Level 1 perks
- About 150 emoji slots, 30 sticker slots, 36 soundboard slots
- 256 Kbps audio quality
- 50 MB upload limit for members on that server
- 1080p 60 FPS Go Live streams, static server banner, custom role icons
Level 3 — 14 boosts
- Includes Level 1 and Level 2 perks
- About 250 emoji slots, 60 sticker slots, 48 soundboard slots
- 384 Kbps audio quality
- 100 MB upload limit for members on that server
- Animated server banner, custom vanity invite link, higher Stage video audience capacity
Additional perk allocation vs server levels
Discord treats boosts used for server levels and boosts used for additional perks as separate allocations. Boosts that keep your server at Level 1, 2, or 3 do not also satisfy the cost of a separately unlocked additional perk, and boosts assigned to an additional perk do not count toward level progression.
Several additional perks—such as Enhanced Role Styles and Server Tags—each require three dedicated boosts to enable and keep active. Discord may also offer other separately allocated options with their own boost costs. Owners and admins manage these allocations in the server boost settings on Discord's desktop app.
Plan total boosts for both goals. If you want Level 2 (7 boosts) plus one three-boost additional perk, you need ten boosts in play: seven for the level and three for the perk. Dropping below either allocation can disable that level or that perk until enough boosts are available again.

Choosing a level for your community
Small communities often start at Level 1 for branding upgrades such as an animated icon and invite background. Level 2 is a common target when members need higher uploads, better Go Live resolution, and a server banner. Level 3 matters most when you want a vanity invite link, maximum emoji and sticker capacity, and the highest published audio quality for everyday voice use.
If you also want profile tags or enhanced role styles, add those three-boost allocations on top of the level requirement rather than assuming they are included in Level 1–3.
